🌸 Significance of Kartik Purnima 2025
Kartik Purnima, also known as Tripurari Purnima or Margashirsha Purnima Vrat, is one of the most sacred full moon days in the Hindu calendar. Falling on 30 November 2025 (Sunday), this day marks the conclusion of the holy Kartik month, which is highly revered for spiritual purification, fasting, and charity.
It is believed that on Kartik Purnima, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Matsya (the fish avatar), and Lord Shiva destroyed the demon Tripurasura, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Devotees who bathe in sacred rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, or Godavari at sunrise on this day attain immense merit (punya).
🪔 Rituals of Kartik Purnima Vrat
- Holy Bath (Snan):
- Devotees wake up before sunrise and take a dip in a holy river, pond, or at home with Ganga water.
- This ritual is called Kartik Snan, believed to cleanse sins and bring divine blessings.
- Fasting and Puja:
- Observe Purnima Vrat, either Nirjala (without food) or with fruits and milk.
- Offer prayers to Lord Vishnu, Tulsi Mata, and Lord Shiva.
- Light diyas near Tulsi plants and on riverbanks in the evening (known as Deepdaan).
- Charity and Daan:
- Donating food, clothes, lamps, and money to Brahmins and the poor brings prosperity and peace.
- Performing Annadaan (feeding others) is considered most auspicious.
- Dev Deepawali (in Varanasi):
- On Kartik Purnima, Varanasi celebrates Dev Deepawali, when the ghats of the Ganga are illuminated with countless diyas — said to welcome the gods descending to Earth.
