📜 History & Mythological Significance

⭐ The Legend of Ravana

According to sacred texts:

  • Ravana performed intense penance to please Lord Shiva.
  • He offered his ten heads one after another.
  • Shiva appeared and restored the heads, earning the name “Baidyanath” (the Divine Physician).
  • Ravana requested Shiva to accompany him to Lanka.
  • Shiva agreed but on one condition — the Shivalinga must not be placed on the ground.
  • Ravana handed it temporarily to Lord Vishnu (in disguise), who placed it on earth at Deoghar.
  • Thus, the Jyotirlinga became established permanently.
